 Children’s Learn To Ski Programs

Click here to download a printable registration form

Please note: All children in skiing programs must be WNSC members

The goal of our programs is to introduce children to cross country skiing as a lifelong sport that can best be enjoyed once the basic skills and techniques have been mastered.  Fun and games are the major component of the programs with children grouped by age and ability.

  • Bunny Rabbits is for children five years of age and younger (U – 6).  Children must have an adult ski with them.
  • Jackrabbits is for children six to nine years of age (U – 10).  Children progress from beginner through to advanced with appropriate activities at each level.  Parents are more than welcome to ski with their child’s Jackrabbit group!
  • Track Attack Racers is for skiers over the age of ten with an
interest in competitive skiing.  Racing technique and training is
    emphasized.
  • Wapiti Racers is for skiers with an interest in competitive skiing. 2007 Wapiti Racers Registration Form and 2007-08 Season Schedule
  • Go Ski  for girls over the age of 10 with an interest in recreational skiing. Newcomers to the sport are more than welcome.
  • Boys Club - for boys over the age of 10 with an interest in recreational skiing. Newcomers to the sport are more than welcome.
  • Biathlon Bears is for skiers over the age of ten with an interest in
skate skiing and target shooting.  Newcomers to the sport are welcome.

Equipment:

The WNSC has several sets of cross country skis that can be borrowed for the lesson season.  These skis are offered on a first come first serve basis, starting in the fall.  In lieu of payment, parents are  asked to volunteer three hours as a cocoa parent.

Track Attack, Wapiti Racers, and Biathlon Bears require wax-able skis (no fish scales).  Waxing Technique is taught in both programs.

Bunny Rabbits, Go Ski, Boys Club and Jackrabbits  will enjoy early success with waxless skis (fish scales).  However, as children progress, a wax-able ski will definitely enhance their skiing experience.

Parents wanting to ski with their children are able to borrow free skis - while they last.

NO WALKING ON THE SKI TRAILS

DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS DECEMBER 1.  This allows us time to organize classes, ski rentals and order booklets and stickers.  Some late registrations may be accepted if there is room in the program.  Meeting the registration deadline prevents disappointment and helps ensure we have well-planned programs.

What to wear?

Layers of clothing work best - nothing too bulky, being able to move is very important.  Scarves or neck warmers can be worn at half mast, ready to "spring into action" as needed.  One pair of good quality ski socks should be worn - the toes need to be able to move.
