Girls just wanna have fun!

<< register for chicks 2025-2026 here <<
Winter 2025-2026 Chicks program registration is now open!

Please register for this program when you purchase your annual membership (see button above) so that you can be automatically added to Chick's weekly email list. If you have already purchased your membership but missed adding the Chicks option, you can email Melissa (a volunteer leader), and she can advise you on how to proceed.

Who: Chicks on Sticks
What: A ladies' group recreation ski program that runs twice weekly - come when you can!
When: Monday and Thursday, leaving at 7:15 pm sharp from the Lodge.
Why: The goal of our Chicks on Sticks program is to introduce women to cross-country skiing as a lifelong sport that can be best enjoyed once the basic skills and techniques have been mastered. Also, to get you outdoors after work!
Wear: Be sure to bring: headlamp (yes, we go beyond Electric Ave), water bottle (you'll be surprised how thirsty you can get in the cold), temperature-appropriate upper & lower body layers (not cotton), warm socks (but leave room for toes to wiggle), and gloves or mitts. Further info on how to dress for cross-country skiing here
How much: A one-time fee ($20.00) to cover wax and other program costs for WNSC members.
How to register: Register on the Zone 4 page when you sign up for your Membership, OR bring $20 cash or cheque on your first night of the 2024-2025 season.
Rentals: Are available on a first-come, first-served basis as per WNSC rental rates. If you need rentals, please arrive by at least 6:45 pm so you can be fitted and ready to ski by 7:15 pm. Rental Room closes at 6:50 pm sharp. Prepaid on the website, or cash or cheque only.
Experience: Some previous experience on classic skis is recommended - you should be able to ski a minimum of 3km (equivalent of 45 mins or less) and be fairly comfortable going up and down hills. The group will be split into levels of ability, generally with 3km, 5 km and 7km groups. If you are a complete beginner, we recommend that you take some Adult Lessons first to get the most out of your Chicks on Sticks experience.
Waxing: No, not like at the spa! If you need to grip wax your skis, please come early & feel free to use the wax room on the lower level.
How cold: Cut off temperature is -20°C (not including wind chill) at 4:00 pm that day, according to Environment Canada.
How to register? - Register on the Zone 4 page when you sign up for your Membership OR bring $20 cash or cheque on your first night.
