Types of Lessons:
Below is a description of each of the lessons we offer. Finding the right lesson for you is important to us. We offer single session lessons in private or group format. We also offer, new for the 2022-23 ski season- Ski Packages. Lessons are ideal for never ever skiers and beginners. If you are seeking an intermediate ski lesson, these are also available by request.
- Introduction to Classic Skiing: This is a 60-90 minute lesson designed for first timers and those who haven't skied for many years. Covers the very basics to get you safely started and information on which trails to stick to. This lesson includes falling and recovery, diagonal stride, double poling, introduces uphill and downhill techniques (snow plow and herringbone). Once you have taken this lesson and skied for a couple of weeks on your own, you should take the Classic Skiing Tune-up.
- Introduction to Classic Skiing - 3 Pack Lesson: This is a series of 3 x 60-90 minute lessons designed for first timers, those who haven't skied for many years or have taken a lesson before but forgotten what to do! By staging over three sessions it allows time for you to practice in between and successfully layer on new skills to optimize your progression and build confidence on the trails. These lessons include: falling and recovery, diagonal stride, double poling, introduces uphill and downhill techniques (snow plow and herringbone). Each session will include time on the trails to practice your new skills. A worthy investment!
- Classic Skiing Follow-up: This is a 60-90 minute lesson for people who have some experience and would like to enhance their classic skiing skills. Ideally you will have taken the Introduction to Classic lesson above. Our Instructors can help you improve your diagonal stride, double poling, uphill diagonal stride and if there is interest, and time permits, we can introduce you to one step / double pole.
- Introduction to Skate Skiing: This is a 1 to 1.5 hour lesson for people who have some classic skiing experience and want to try skate skiing. You will be introduced to the skate skiing technique and learn some balance and coordination exercises. Depending on participants, and if time permits, the following will be introduced: free skate, one skate and offset skate.
- Skate Skiing Follow-up: This is a 60-90 minute lesson for people who have either taken the Introduction to Skate Skiing lesson or have been skate skiing for a few years but have not taken a lesson before, and would like to improve your technique. We will review free skate, one skate and offset skate, then move on to two skate, and if time permits introduce diagonal skate. Please do not take this lesson of you have NEVER skate skied before - see Introduction to Skate Skiing 1 lesson first.
- Private Lessons: These lessons are available by request. If interested in a private lesson, contact us to find a date that fits for you. Private lessons can be for Skate or Classic skiing, beginners or immediate skiers.
Our Instructors have taken the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) course and are WNSC club members who volunteer their time and skill to teach our adult lessons. Rental equipment, including skis, skate skis, boots and poles are available for lessons from the rental shop on the lower floor of the Lodge.
