Cross country skiing is a technical sport. To fully enjoy it, some degree of technique is required. WNSC is excited to offer a way to improve your cross country skiing technique through Adult Lessons.
  1. Introduction to Classic Skiing & Beginner Trails: This is a 1 to 1.5 hour lesson designed for first timers and those who haven't skied for many years. Covers the very basics to get you safely started and information on which trails to stick to. This lesson includes falling and recovery, diagonal stride, double poling, introduces uphill and downhill techniques (snow plow and herringbone). Once you have taken this lesson and skied for a couple of weeks on your own, you should take the .....
  2. Classic Skiing Tune-Up: This is a 1 to 1.5 hour lesson for people who have some experience and would like to enhance their classic skiing skills. Ideally you will have taken the Introduction to Classic lesson above. Our Instructors can help you improve your diagonal stride, double poling, uphill diagonal stride and if there is interest, and time permits, we can introduce you to one step / double pole.
  3. On Trail Classic Lesson Follow Up: (must have taken our Intro or Tune Up lessons above) This lesson gets you out onto a mix of trails to apply the fundamentals that you have learned (and practiced) from previous lessons and fine tune your skills to build confidence. A great way to progress further with the support your small group and Instructor!
  4. Introduction to Skate Skiing 1: This is a 1 to 1.5 hour lesson for people who have some classic skiing experience and want to try skate skiing. You will be introduced to the skate skiing technique and learn some balance and coordination exercises. Depending on participants, and if time permits, the following will be introduced: free skate, one skate and offset skate.
  5. Introduction to Skate Skiing 2: This is a 1 to 1.5 hour lesson for people who have either taken the Introduction to Skate Skiing lesson or have been skate skiing for a few years but have not taken a lesson before, and would like to improve your technique. We will review free skate, one skate and offset skate, then move on to two skate, and if time permits introduce diagonal skate. Please do not take this lesson of you have NEVER skate skied before - see Introduction to Skate Skiing 1 lesson first.
  6. Private Lessons: If interested, email us here

Note: All of the dates shown above are SINGLE SESSION lessons. The same lesson is taught for each date. So technically, you only need to attend one lesson and all topics (as listed above) will be covered in that single lesson. You are welcome to register for a second lesson on the same topic if you feel you want more instruction, OR over the course of the Winter you can register for the next level once you have had some time to practice your new skills!

Our Instructors have taken the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors (CANSI) course and are WNSC club members who volunteer their time and skill to teach our adult lessons. Rental equipment, including skis, skate skis, boots and poles are available for lessons from the rental shop on the lower floor of the Lodge.
