35 kms of pure joy!

Trail Grooming Status:
  • UPDATE Sat, Jan 16th morning: New classic track set on South Blue and is in AWESOME shape!!! Stadium & Jackrabbit also set! Elsewhere expect variable classic conditions with the shrinking snow and still some wind debris in places. Watch for debris in the tracks - it can "grab" your skis. But worth getting out on what will be a fantastic day!
  • UPDATE Friday, Jan 15th morning: New classic track set on North dog trails and also on the 3km Forest loop. Skate lanes being worked on this morning. We REALLY need more snow and these mild temperatures aren't helping. Enjoy your ski as best you can!
  • UPDATE Tuesday, Jan 12th: Classic trails are ICY (no thanks to rain) and might still have debris despite our best efforts to remove it. Also some larger branches and trees are still being dealt with. We really need fresh snow so that the current tracks can be renovated to break up the ice and lay fresh new ones. If you head out, please use caution at all times.
  • UPDATE Monday, Jan 11th afternoon: WIND STORM - USE CAUTION!! Environment Canada reported wind gusts over 100 km/hr. There are reports of trees down on the north trails and the Forest Trails. There will be debris in the track and other trees down. Please use caution particularly on hills and at night. It will take our staff and volunteers several days to clean up all the debris and fallen trees. Please be patient and be prepared to improvise on the trails. Thank you!
  • UPDATE Monday, Jan 11: North trails & Electric Ave received daily skate trail scarifying.
  • UPDATE Saturday, Jan 9, 2021: New track set on Camelbacks - note: this is an intermediate trail due to a long moderately steep downhill.
  • UPDATE November 18, 2020 forward: NO WALKING on all ski trails from this date forward until the end of the 2020-2021 snow season. Snow packing has commenced. Snowshoeing or walking (if firm enough / no sinking) IS permitted on the multi use trails at this time provided you hold a winter membership or have paid for a day pass.

Trail Maps:
Purple trails start at the main (Steve Cooper) lodge while pink trails start from the North parking lot off Highway 40. We recommend that you print a copy of the map at home and bring it in your pocket. Phones can "die" quickly in the cold! There are permanent trail maps posted at each intersection. Note that dogs are only permitted on the North (pink) trails as noted below. Snowshoers, fat bikes and hikers restricted to Multi Use trails during winter months.

Multi-Use Trail System:
The Multi-Use Trail System was added November 2018 for snowshoers, back country skiers and fat biking and provides a unique experience for non nordic users to enjoy the outdoors during the winter months. Trail head signs have been posted, the mapping (on Trailforks) is up to date, and new trail navigation markers are in place. See the maps above. Dogs are permitted on the NORTH multi use trails if accompanying snowshoers, back county skiers or fat bikes - sorry no pedestrian users during the winter. See our Fat Bike page for further information.

Trails with Lighting:
We are very fortunate to have approximately 5km of lit trails at Wapiti Nordic. Lights are turned on from 5:00pm - 9:00pm on Monday - Thursday evenings on the following trails (see Complete Trail System map above):
  • Main stadium
  • Biathlon stadium
  • Big Dipper
  • South loop along Highway 40.
  • Always bring a headlamp in case you are inspired to travel beyond our lit trails!

Report a problem:
If you experience a blockage on the trail, please email us and provide specific information (trail name, location, etc) where possible

Trail Etiquette:
Please review here before using our trail network

Trailforks:
See our Mountain Bike page for additional info on trail maps and elevation profiles recorded by local trail enthusiasts!Saturdaw

Inclement Weather: Please check on Facebook if there is inclement weather. The lodge is generally closed early if the roads are bad due to freezing rain or heavy rain. Each program informs the participants what their cut off temperature is. For example the Chicks program uses a cut off of -25 C. On evenings that the temperature is -30 by 5 pm the lodge is closed early. These guidelines have been developed based on the number of skiers that come out, and to ensure the safety of WNSC staff and volunteers. As always the trails are open 24/7.
