Wapiti Nordic Ski Club is a not-for-profit, registered sport and recreation Society that averages over 750 annual members plus day pass visitors , school groups and community events! Our Club is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, we have a large network of passionate volunteers who help lead programs, organize events, perform trail maintenance and act as Lodge Ambassadors. We also have several employees to help run the operational side of things:
Trail and Facilities Attendant: Wapiti Nordic is very fortunate to have a sufficient number of loyal annual members to support a full time trail and facilities position. Most Nordic clubs operate solely with volunteer groomers who set track when they have free time to do so - usually just on weekends! How spoiled are we?!? Our extensive network of 35kms of trails also warrants a dedicated staff member who is also supported by trained volunteer groomers during the week and on weekends.
Patrick loves working outdoors and is an avid snowshoe enthusiast. He has a great "can do" attitude and is willing to turn his hand to anything to help out at Wapiti Nordic! During his first Winter (2024-2025) with the Club, he was an enthusiastic student under the mentorship of the Club's nordic skiing grooming experts and quickly picked up foundational skills that he will continue to build on. Be sure to say Hi to Patrick if you see him out on the trails or around our buildings.
Operations Coordinator: The Club's 2022 Business Plan identified the need to have an employee to help coordinate core programs such as rentals and lessons, oversee lodge personnel, coordinate external bookings and support the volunteers who deliver the Club's diverse programs, to keep pace with community demand. Like the Trail and Facilities Attendant role, the Operations Coordinator carries a more robust portfolio during the Winter months, with pre-planning and wrap up activities a priority in the shoulder months. Historically Summers have had limited programming but the Board is open to new possibilities!
November 2025: Get to know Ashleigh - information coming soon!
Rental Attendants: These part-time, seasonal, weekend employees play an important role in managing rental equipment and ensuring visitors to the lodge are greeted and any questions are answered. They are also responsible for welcoming members and visitors to the lodge and keeping it clean, tidy and stoking the fire.
