Annual
Wapiti Nordic Trail Race!

>> register here! <<
This annual race is a fundraiser for the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club with 42km, 21km, 10km, 5km and 3k options.

Saturday September 6, 2025
Don't Get Lost in the Woods (DGLW) - Walk/Run Race

Getting to Wapiti Nordic Centre: South on Hwy 40 - turn right at Twp Rd 704A - immediate T and turn left - follow road and just past the bridge turn left into parking lot .... if full, continue straight and you will see a gravel parking lot just up the hill on the right.

Race Package Pick Up: Race Day, please arrive 45 minutes prior to race start time to ensure you can find parking and all amenities as well as have time to pin your number in a highly visible location for the timers. A table will be set up on or near the Steve Cooper lodge for race package pick up. T-shirts will be ready for you here. Note if you did not make the early race registration, this will not be available for you as we had to order the shirts weeks ago.

Race Start Times
  • 8:30am ~ 42K
  • 9:00am ~ 21K
  • 9:30am ~ 10K
  • 11:00am ~ 5K
  • 11:30am ~ 3K
  • 11:05am ~ 400m (U8 Runners)

The Course = Look for pink flagging!
42K - start out on the Forest Trails for 5K, then the Hilly 5K ... come into the stadium and "pivot" at pylon 1 (marked with balloon) and go back the way you just came. You do the Hilly 5K and the Forest Trails to complete your first 20K. In the stadium you just stay in the flagging and it will take you to the North 11K ... come into the stadium and "pivot" at pylon 2 (also marked with a balloon) and do 11K backwards to finish your 42K! This means on the first 10ish and the last 10ish you are doing the course backwards ... be aware of signs as they will also be backwards!
21K - start out on the hilly 5K, the Forest 5, then finish off with 11K on the North Trails. Note you may see some of the 42K runners going backwards so don't be surprised if someone is coming at ya!
10K - start with the Hilly 5K and finish off with the Forest 5K.
5K - Forest Trails - watch for signs directing you at intersections
3K - Forest Trails - watch for signs at intersections and follow 3K route!
We acknowledge all tracking devices record slightly different distances we have done our best to mark the course to ensure you get an accurate distance.
Washrooms: There are outhouses in the main Stadium and at Antler Junction (accessible for the 42K'ers & 21K'ers only).

Water Stations: At the main lodge start/finish plus:
42K - At 5K near the Firepit, at 10K in the Main Stadium, at 15K at the Firepit, at 20K near the Main Stadium, at 25K at the Old Chalet (self watering station on the deck of the old Chalet), at 31K in the Main Stadium, and again at 36K at the Old Chalet
21K - At the Firepit at 5K, at the main stadium at 10K, at the Old Chalet at about 15K - this is a self water station on the deck of the old Challet
10K - at 5K near the Firepit
5K - no water station
3K - no water station

Pets and Strollers
: Sorry no pets or strollers on the course for participant safety.

Be BearSmart:
Participants will be in remote forested areas. Bear spray is encouraged + know how to use it.

Timing: We are a little nostalgic at the Wapiti Nordic and like to do this old school with paper and pencil. Let's be honest it's not our best attribute ... we do our best and you are welcome to time yourself and give us your time for verification. Also ... make sure we can see your whole bib ... if not, there may be a set of burpees waiting for you at the finish line!

Bling Bling:

Everyone will receive a finishing medal upon completing the race. Door prizes will be handed out randomly. Placing medals will be distributed for each age category once all racers for that category are in.

Finishing Medals: We will do our best to get the results posted and hand out medals for each category as soon as possible. Please be patient as we wait for all racers in your category to come in so we can hand out all medals for that category at once.

Snacks
: Available post race on or near the deck while you are waiting for results and getting some recovery in. Seating is limited so bring a blanket or lawn chair and have a "Forest Bath" with us. It's a fancy new term which basically means being in nature. It's an added bonus racing with us.

Weather: There are no refunds, in the event the weather is extreme, participants are given the opportunity to run the race at a later date/time. Winds gusting to 70km/hr, a thunderstorm, and air quality 8 or higher one hour before your race start are extreme conditions and unsafe. The race will proceed as planned otherwise. Use your own discretion for running in rain, cold, poor air quality, etc. All runners run at their own risk.

Have a great race everyone and enjoy the fabulous trails at Wapiti Nordic Centre!!!
