All users of the Wapiti Nordic Ski Club trails are expected to observe the following guidelines, in addition to the Assumption of Risk & exclusion of Liability:
- Always ski within your ability
- Always check posted trail conditions and follow posted signs warning of trail closures or dangers
- Always ski in the correct direction on designated one-way trails - this is for your and other skiers safety, especially at the start & end of the season. It is a requirement of the WNSC that warning and directional signs are followed at all times; non compliance could lead to further action including termination of access.
- Give way to skiers coming downhill (why it is important to follow the directional signage)
- Use caution when approaching steep slopes or under bridges
- If you catch up with a skier in front, please reduce your speed as you pass on their left and then speed up again. Think of other skiers as yield signs. If you are approaching someone from behind, it is OK to shout "TRACK" or "PASSING ON YOUR LEFT" and the skier in front is expected to yield or step off to the side of the trail and let the skier behind pass through in the track
- Keep moving while on the trails. If you need to take a break or re-apply wax, step out of the tracks and do so in a safe place. Make sure you are well off the trail to allow clear passage for other skiers
- If you fall, please try to get up or move off to the side of the trail to get out of the way of approaching skiers. We all fall, but if you leave massive dents or "sitz marks" try and fill them in
- We all enjoy skiing on freshly groomed tracks. If you are skating, try to avoid the classic tracks. If you are going to herringbone up a hill, please step out of the classic tracks
- Snow shoeing and hiking on ski trails is dangerous for all users and ruins the groomed trails. Please stay on trails designated for each activity.
- Do not disturb or attempt to feed wildlife
- Be courteous and advise other skiers of any issues on the trail or wildlife encounters
- Please help with maintenance - as you ski, remove small branches and debris / litter from the trails. Thank you.
- Help maintain our pristine environment - do not litter and leave no trace
- Ski with dogs only in designated areas and follow rules posted at the trail head
- When parking at the trail heads, do not leave any valuables in your vehicle
