Meet Lori Brough - Women in Sport Leadership
As a primarily volunteer based organization, the Wapiti Nordic is driven by community involvement. Lori Brough (standing in the photo) has not only been an active member of the Club but as a designated accountant also serves on our Board of Directors as the Treasurer. As a NCCP and PMBI trained coach she also directs our Mountain Bike Program and Race Team.
Lori has also contributed by creating and coordinating events, races, and programs in partnership with our many volunteers. Her sport involvement led her to being selected in the province wide Women in Sport Leadership Community of Practice program. Over the last three years she traveled to Edmonton and Calgary to engage in workshops, presentations, and discussions centered around sport and leadership. She gained valuable knowledge from sport leaders, researchers, and Olympic athletes.
Her enthusiasm and effort has contributed to the Mountain Bike Program growing into our largest attended program. Lori is committed to continuing to share her knowledge and experiences by developing sustainable programming & events, supporting leaders & coaches, and fostering an inclusive community of sport & fitness.
A huge thank you Lori for contributing to our club and community. Check out Lori's Women in Sport Leadership video below ....

Meet Gordon Meyers!
There are numerous members of Wapiti Nordic who volunteer many hours, coach, instruct and share their love of skiing. Gord Meyers is one of those members, who also is an inspiration to many skiers. When Gord retired (20 years ago) he became an active skier and soon took up skate skiing. A few years later he began teaching adults. He both coordinated the adult lesson program and actively taught for many years. He is a patient teacher, encouraging others to improve their skills, and at the same time, always learning to improve his own technique. He enjoys being a lifelong learner in both athletic pursuits and otherwise.
Gord recently retired from teaching but is still an avid skier in his senior years. At age 70 he skied his first Edmonton Birkie (31 km) and over the next 5 years, brought home a couple of silver medals. He has continued to volunteer for many Club activities, including President and several terms on the executive. Obviously he wants members to enjoy the great facility and he wants to be involved in its ongoing success.
Watch for a youthful looking man out on skate skis or classic with a smile on his face and it will likely be Gord. Thank you for your service to the club and for being a constant inspiration to us Gord!
